The name for this home page was inspired by a piece of Chinese caligraphy brought back from Hong Kong by my sister. Its translation is literally 'blissful family'. The caligraphy is framed and now hangs in the 'international' corner of our house.
The 'blissful family' currently consists of me, Theresa, aka 'matriarch in waiting' (family joke); my husband, Mike; and our three children: Ben (6), Josh (3) and Rosie (2).
I say 'currently' because Ben and Josh are keen to have an addition to the family...one of the furry variety, also known as a pet. Cat or dog are the current front runners, but as they have been told there will be no pets until their toys are well looked after, my money and my furnishings are safe. I hear those boos and hisses and shouts of "cruel mother!" but until you've tried three kids, don't knock the decision.
Rescue, aka the Lord, is at hand. Guess what He's put in our garden? Long snout, sticky-out spiky things, nocturnal...need I say more? We have a resident hedgehog. Somewhere in the bushes at the back of the garden, where mother fears to tread, there is a life form that is not human or domestic. Prudence, as I have called the aforementioned creature - I hasten to add I have not checked its sex so c'est la vie if it's male - has now been adopted by the children of Blissful Family, and I'm guessing I can drag this out for two or three years.
Why the interest in war? Don't know is the straight answer. It could be due to the fact I was literally born into the British Army in 1963, and have wonderful memories of far flung places that I could never give my children. From a young age I always saw my life map as being headed for the Forces. But Maggie Thatcher put paid to that dream in 1988. Still, the Lord had obviously decided that my future lay in a different direction, and IÕm now a hospital social worker (yep Š one of those!), living 20 miles East from where I went to school. So much for seeing the world!!!
IÕve married into a family of psychiatric nurses Š thatÕs their qualification not their personality!! Having said that.......
Ben wants to be a soldier/policeman/fireman/helicopter pilot/spaceman Š not necessarily in that order you understand, nor all at the same time. Josh is a simple soul, he just wants to be Batman. And Rosie? Well, she has the skills, qualities, attitude and fog horn voice to be anything she wants to be, as long as sheÕs in charge. It has to be said Š she is her mothers daughter!
I think thatÕs probably all the disclosure you can take at any one time, so if youÕre still reading this, thanks for staying the course. I hope youÕve enjoyed this site, and please do call again. KettleÕs always on.
In the meantime, if your appetite is whetted, why not try visiting my sister's site - yep there's two of us - at homepages.gold.ac.uk/suzanne
Thank you for calling.
Call again soon, you never know what changes I may have made!
